Instagram now has QR code which allows user to visit a profile from any camera app

Instagram has launched universal QR codes which can be searched from any camera app. The feature is intended for the simplicity of users and business owners as well. Through scanning their QR codes, consumers can monitor businesses and get information about store hours, make purchases or an alternative to track the account. The function was first introduced in Japan, reported by The Verge.

The universal update to the QR code is only intended for the smartphone app. The application for sharing Instagram profiles, as reported by 9to5Mac, is fairly familiar with the exception being that previously the application created a proprietary code that could only be scanned by the built-in camera of Instagram. The latest update makes QR codes universal and now everyone can browse Instagram profiles from any camera app that supports decoding QR code.

You can generate the QR codes by going to Instagram Settings. The "QR code" option is listed alongside other options. Users must choose the QR code option. Their username or name tag will first appear but will act as a QR code until it is saved.

Several themes are available for generating QR codes for the background. Users have the option of choosing colors, emojis, and even taking selfies when creating Instagram QR codes.

Users will also be able to scan a QR code by navigating to the "Scan" option at the bottom of the screen. Once the QR code has been saved, it can be shared.

The COVID 19 pandemic has drawn attention to many small businesses and through Instagram this approach can be useful in supporting online businesses. In May, Instagram app had launched a story-based "Support Small Business" sticker to show users love for their favorite small business. Users only have to apply the sticker to their video or picture. Then these pictures and videos would be added to a shared story where friends will be able to see which businesses they encourage.

"While a ton of markets remain closed and social media acts as the main source online, the move to online business is more important than ever. We're introducing new ways for people to help and explore small businesses, along with more resources to keep companies updated and connected to their customers," Instagram said in a statement.
